Ask and you shall receive

They said “Ask, and you shall receive,” I think many would say this seems like an improbable way for life to work, but sometimes I’m lead to believe the universe does work this way. Of course it should go with typical adage warning label “be careful what you wish for”. Back in February I started saying I wanted to leave America for a little while and experience something different. Before I know it, a friend helps line up a volunteer position at the NGO and school in India where I’ve already been for more than a month and a half now. A couple weeks ago, I said I wanted more responsibility in my work. Now I’m a full time teacher, redesigning the website of Bhoruka Charitable Trust (coming along nicely might I add, bctngo.org), and am tasked to redesign the way the NGO handles and works with interns.

Then you say, “but Bo, you made these things happen, it didn’t just fall out of the sky into your lap” and I couldn’t agree with you more. Nonetheless, I had to utilize a belief in myself, and that it is all possible if I really want it to happen. As I’m working through the halfway point of my internship in India, the question of what is next is looming in front of me, as always. Like I said earlier, I must ask first, or really I must identify what it is I want. What I want next is to continue my international experience, in the capacity of a paid job, and located either in America, England, or the Netherlands. The choices of location come from my desire to work in a language environment where I can thrive. Now that I’ve declared my intentions, I’m excited to see what comes next. Don’t worry, I will be working to make these outcomes happen.
Last week I wrote to you from a train  speeding across India. At the time that was still only the beginning of the journey. We hadn’t arrived back at the school until early at 4am on Tuesday. Wednesday was a holiday, giving me ample opportunity to get back into the fitness routine. Thursday through Saturday were spent fretting about teaching my 9th and 10th classes but I believe I have it all under control now. And today, Sunday was spent resting, exercising, reading and preparing for another school week.
I’m continuing to wear my Oakland Athletics hat as the team is in the playoffs over in California. I’ve really been enjoying all of the FB posts and snapchats from my brothers and friends celebrating our team’s glory. Currently they are tied 1-1 in the series with the Detroit Tigers. Go A’s!
Last week I forgot to mention that UC Berkeley had finally sent me my BA degrees. I was delightfully surprised they had printed both my Political Science and Dutch Studies degrees onto one paper, as well as granting me Honors in Dutch Studies. Thanks to my mom for sending me the photocopy right away!
With 7 weeks left until my return to the Netherlands, and another two weeks until my flight back into San Francisco, time is bound to fly by! I must continue to make the most out of the precious commodity that time is. Till next time friends!
